Not content with dominating the market for online retail, Amazon is trying its hand at making videogames, starting with Living Classics for Facebook.
It's not exactly Call of Duty -- the game asks you to help reunite foxes who've got lost in stories like Alice in WonderlandTreasure Island andthe Wizard of Oz. To do that, you merely need to click on moving objects in a scene -- of which there are plenty, and quests to complete too. You can give it a try over on Facebook.
Amazon answers the question of "why are you making games?" in a blog post. The company wrote: "We know that many Amazon customers enjoy playing games -- including free-to-play social games -- and thanks to Amazon's know-how, we believe we can deliver a great, accessible gaming experience that gamers and our customers can play any time."
The company has been recruiting for developers for its game studio for some time, but will continue to hire new staff to create more games in the future. (If you're interested, Amazon invites you to drop them an email at game-careers@amazon.com.)
Elsewhere, the company recently opened an office in London focusing on R&D and developing services and APIs for televisions, games consoles, PCs and smartphones.
